{"id":1025,"date":"2011-06-27T17:34:15","date_gmt":"2011-06-27T22:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/trolltuner.com\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2011-06-27T17:34:27","modified_gmt":"2011-06-27T22:34:27","slug":"a-new-gearbox-failure-mode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/trolltuner.com\/?p=1025","title":{"rendered":"A new gearbox failure mode"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dragcar gearbox had an interesting failure on the last outing. \u00a0Manifested as partially blocked third gear. \u00a0 \u00a0Initially what I thought was the snap-ring that holds 3rd turned out to be the 3\/4 Hub on the input shaft. \u00a0The corners of it have fractured off. \u00a0 The bummer here is that even the magical Quaife kit does not address this. \u00a0 \u00a0Not much initial damage here but the bits ended up in all the wrong places. \u00a0\ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p><strong>Has anyone out there experienced a failure like this? <\/strong> Possibly a fatigue failure from some harmonic (9k rpm and solid clutch disk) or a mechanical overload. \u00a0 I figured it would have killed the 1\/2 since the loads there are much higher on slicks.
